March Beauty of the Month is Taryn Riddle!

Taryn, poet and author, writes honestly about the inner landscapes of healing, becoming, and the in-between spaces of life, offering a refreshing take on our current world.

Like Bridgett, Taryn grew up with a journal always in hand. A safe place to make sense of the weight of the beauty standards and body image struggles during her teen years.

Through Taryn’s studies in neuroscience and philosophy, her words remind us of the delicate ways our minds and bodies are connected, and that we’re all learning to move through life with a little more gentleness toward ourselves.

New Substack: “Revisiting Harm Is Not the Same as Taking Responsibility”

When America’s Next Top Model aired in ‘03, I didn’t watch because I had been living in the same industry that the show glamorized.

But I did just watch the recent documentary that revisited the harm done without anyone truly taking responsibility for it.

The documentary could have been a moment to acknowledge that fame and reality tv was more protected than people.

It made me wonder why this documentary was made in the first place — especially when Tyra framed it as her chance to “finally say her part.”

Replaying pain without deep accountability doesn’t heal anyone. It just asks the people who were hurt to relive it again.

In my opinion, this was a very missed opportunity to tell the truth.

Mom, what were you like in the ‘90s?

I was trying to figure the world out. I wasn’t completely grounded yet, but I always seemed to find a way to make things happen for myself.

I left home young and took care of myself. I was traveling the world, modeling, living in about eight different countries, and learning about different cultures.
Some days I felt incredibly confident… and other days it felt like I had none at all.

I fell in love a few times and had my heart broken a few times, too.
I was also beginning to educate myself about my body and holistic nutrition.
But mostly, I was just finding myself.

She was never too much.
Never too sensitive.
Never asking for more than she deserved.

She was just a little girl carrying her curiosity into rooms that didn’t know how to hold it.
Learning to quiet herself.
Learning to adapt.
Learning to believe she was the problem.

But here’s the truth many of us are still unlearning throughout life:
You were never broken.
You were never “wrong.”

You simply hadn’t stepped into rooms and the arms of those who see your heart, honor your creativity, and make you feel safe being fully and authentically yourself.

She is a nationally recognized disability advocate, body image speaker, and author of This Is Body Grief.
