Beauty of the Month
Anna and I met years ago on set when I sat in her makeup chair. Within minutes of a conversation about life and the pressures women experience in the world, I knew I had met a gem of a human! That first conversation evolved into a friendship that has lasted decades, one so meaningful that Anna was my makeup artist for my wedding!
I am thrilled to feature Anna because she embodies everything Beyond Beauty Project stands for: empowering women to embrace authentic beauty rooted in self-acceptance and well-being. Through The Beauty Confidante, she helps women reconnect with their own magnetism by inspiring them that beauty is not about perfection; it's an energy that radiates when we feel safe, confident, and aligned with ourselves.
Our work may be our own, but our parallel paths have evolved into missions to help women celebrate their own beauty. How lucky am I

“Comparison is one of the most powerful distractions from your own path.”
I am an international editorial and celebrity makeup and hair artist, and the founder of The Beauty Confidante, a Toronto-based platform dedicated to clean, thoughtful, and holistic beauty.
For more than twenty-five years, I have worked across fashion, editorial, and celebrity. My work has appeared in publications such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Elle, and I have had the privilege of working with remarkable women, including Lady Gaga, Michelle Yeoh, Brooke Shields, Kasey Musgraves, and Tate McRae. These experiences have taken me into some of the most creative spaces in the beauty and fashion world, but they have also taught me something much deeper about beauty itself.
My story actually begins much earlier, in Transylvania, Romania.
I grew up surrounded by nature. My grandparents lived on a farm, and my childhood unfolded among forests, gardens, animals, and the rhythm of the seasons. Beauty in that world was not something you tried to manufacture or perfect. It was something you felt.
When I moved to Canada at sixteen, everything changed. I had to navigate a new culture and identity, and art became my language. I later studied Fine Arts at York University, focusing on painting and sculpture. That artistic training continues to shape my work today. I approach the face the way a painter approaches a canvas. I think about light, texture, balance, and emotion rather than trends.
Over the years, my work in the beauty industry has only deepened something I intuitively understood from childhood: Beauty is not just visual, it is energetic.
When a woman feels confident, safe in herself, and connected to who she truly is, something shifts. She carries a presence that people instinctively feel. As I often say, beauty is not something we apply. It is an energy we reveal when we feel safe, confident, and fully ourselves.
That realization led me to create The Beauty Confidante in 2021. Through my platform, I curate clean beauty products, offer personalized sessions called The Confidante Method, and teach masterclasses where women learn practical skills that help them feel empowered in their own skin.
At this stage of my life, my greatest passion is helping women rediscover their own magnetism. When a woman reconnects with her individuality and self-acceptance, her beauty becomes undeniable. I truly believe that our role in life is to keep learning and then pass that wisdom forward. I consider myself a constant student of life, and sharing what I have learned has become one of the most meaningful parts of my journey.

The Beyond Beauty Project is for every body.
How did you discover the Beyond Beauty Project, and what initially drew you to it?
Anna Nenoiu: My connection to the Beyond Beauty Project begins with Bridget and a moment I still remember very clearly.
Many years ago, I walked onto a set for a photoshoot, and Bridget happened to be sitting in my makeup chair. I have never been one for small talk, so instead of the usual polite conversation, we immediately started talking about life, identity, creativity, and the pressures women experience in the world.
Within minutes, I knew that I had met someone who saw the world in a similar way. That conversation became the beginning of a friendship that has now lasted decades.
When I later saw what Bridget was creating with the Beyond Beauty Project, it resonated immediately. The project reflects something I have always believed deeply. Beauty is not about perfection or fitting into someone else’s idea of who we should be. Beauty grows from authenticity, individuality, and the courage to live in alignment with ourselves. In many ways, it feels like a natural continuation of the conversations Bridget and I have been having for years.
At some point, many of us realize that living by societal expectations doesn’t feel like our truth.
Did you experience a turning point when you decided to define your own path? What was that moment like for you?
Anna: There were two moments in my life that truly shaped the path I chose.
The first happened when I became a mother at twenty-two. I suddenly found myself responsible for raising a daughter while I was still learning who I was myself. I had to grow up quickly. I had to find my voice even when I felt unsure. I had to make choices that felt brave at times when I was honestly terrified.
But becoming a mother gave me clarity. I knew that I wanted my daughter to see a woman who followed her passion, who chose creativity, and who believed that building a life around the things you love was possible. That moment pushed me to fully commit to the path of being an artist.
The second turning point came years later through my health journey. I live with Addison’s disease, an autoimmune condition that many people cannot see from the outside. Living with an invisible illness changes your perspective on everything. It teaches you to listen to your body. It teaches you to respect your energy and your boundaries. It also teaches you that life becomes far more meaningful when you focus on what truly matters rather than trying to meet external expectations.
Both of these experiences shaped the woman I am today.
“Perfection does not create connection; presence does.”
Looking back often brings clarity and compassion.
If you could speak to your younger self, what would you say about perfectionism and comparing yourself to others?
Anna: If I could speak to my younger self, I would tell her that comparison is one of the most powerful distractions from your own path.
The world will always try to tell you who you should be, especially as a woman and especially in an industry that revolves around appearance.
But individuality is magnetic.
The moment you stop trying to be perfect and start embracing what makes you different, something shifts. People feel authenticity. Perfection does not create connection; presence does.

It’s easy to feel like we’re “behind” in life or not moving fast enough.
How do you remind yourself that your pace is the right pace for you? Or is this something you’re still learning to navigate?
Anna: This is something I continue to learn.
The creative industry often celebrates speed and constant productivity. I have learned over time that my best ideas and my most meaningful work appear when I allow space and stillness in my life.
Nature always reminds me of this. Nothing in nature rushes, yet everything unfolds exactly as it should. Spending time outdoors, walking, breathing, and simply observing the natural world helps me reconnect with that rhythm.
Our understanding of beauty shifts as we grow. How has your perception of beauty changed over the years?
Anna: My perception of beauty has become quieter and much deeper.
When I first entered the industry, beauty was often about visual perfection. Flawless skin, perfect symmetry, and the ideal image.
Today, I see beauty as something far more powerful. Beauty is an energy.
When a woman feels grounded in herself, when she feels safe, confident, and seen, she emits something that others instinctively recognize as beautiful. We are naturally drawn to that energy.
That is why so much of my work now focuses on helping women reconnect with their own sense of self through intentional beauty rituals and practical skills that support confidence and self-acceptance.
Authenticity can be a daily practice.
What helps you stay true to yourself in a world full of expectations?
Anna: Returning to my values helps me stay grounded.
Creativity, authenticity, health, and connection to nature are my anchors. When life becomes busy or overwhelming, I come back to those foundations.
My health journey has also been one of my greatest teachers. Living with Addison’s disease constantly reminds me to listen to my body and protect my energy. That awareness keeps me aligned with what truly matters.

“Self-love often lives in
small choices that we
make every day.”
Self-love looks different for everyone.
How do you practice self-love in your daily life?
Anna: Self-love in my life looks simple and intentional.
It means protecting my energy and allowing space in my schedule so that I am not constantly rushing. It means nourishing my body with clean food and using products that align with my health and values.
It also means allowing creativity to exist without pressure. Painting, walking in nature, cooking, and spending time with people I love all bring me back to myself. Self-love often lives in small choices that we make every day.
Caring for the body is both physical and emotional.
What are some ways you honor your body—physically, mentally, or emotionally?
Anna: The first way I honor my body is by listening to it.
For many years in this industry, we have been taught to push through exhaustion, travel constantly, and carry incredibly heavy makeup kits from set to set. I remember joking in an interview once that no one prepares you for how much packing, lifting, and hauling equipment you will do as a makeup artist.
Over time, I realized that honoring my body means respecting its limits.
Today I prioritize rest, nourishing food, clean beauty products, yoga, walking, meditation, and breathwork. These practices help me stay connected to my body rather than disconnected from it.

If you feel called, we’d love to hear a meaningful piece of your journey.
Is there a story, lesson, or mantra that has guided you along the way that you’d like to share with others?
Anna: One idea has guided me throughout my life and work:
My role is not to transform women. My role is to help them see what is already there.
When a woman reconnects with her individuality and her inner confidence, something extraordinary happens: her beauty becomes magnetic.
I often say that beauty is a vibration. When we feel safe, confident, and aligned with ourselves, that energy radiates outward.
Interestingly, this philosophy has brought my journey full circle.
This summer, I will be hosting a small retreat in Transylvania called The Meadow. The retreat will take place at Bethlen Estate, a beautiful property surrounded by rolling hills and ancient forests. A small group of women will gather for a week of reflection, nature, conversation, and meaningful rituals.
For me, this project is deeply personal.
Transylvania is where my story began. It is where I first experienced beauty as something living and breathing in nature rather than something constructed. Now I have the opportunity to bring women back into that same landscape to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and rediscover the quiet power of presence.
In many ways, the journey has come full circle. The same forests and meadows that shaped my understanding of beauty as a child are now becoming a place where other women can remember their own.
